La clase de la Señorita Miranda
World Language Department
Rules and Procedures
The following rules and procedures have been created to ensure that everyone is treated fairly and the most possible learning occurs each class period. These rules will be strictly enforced.
- Be seated and working when the bell rings.
- Come prepared with materials everyday.
- Raise your hand and wait to be called on.
- The teacher dismisses class, not the bell.
- Treat everyone with respect.
Punctuality: You are expected to be sitting in your seats as soon as the bell rings. Class will begin immediately with a daily “Do Now” activity. Lateness will not be tolerated.
Homework: Homework will be assigned on a daily basis. It is your responsibility to complete the entire assignment and hand it in the next day. You can receive ½ credit if you bring it in the very next day after the assignment was due. After that, the assignment is marked zero. After three incomplete assignments your parents/guardians will be contacted. Neatness is important because I will be collecting assignments periodically. In addition to assigned homework, review of vocabulary and new grammar concepts is an ongoing assignment that will facilitate your success as a foreign language learner. I highly encourage you to review and study new vocabulary on a daily basis.
Grading:
- 80% Tests, Quizzes, Compositions, Speaking grades
- 10% Participation/Speaking
- 10% Homework Assignments
Examinations: Tests will be announced in advance to allow you for preparation. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to obtain this information the day of your return. You will be a given a deadline to make up assignments and tests.
Speaking: Your speaking skills will be assessed on a daily basis. Therefore, it is to your advantage to speak as much as possible in Spanish. In addition to your participation grade, throughout a quarter, you will be given several speaking grades using the departmental speaking rubric. These grades will be counted as quiz grades.
Participation: Participation is an essential part of learning a foreign language. You must arrive to class prepared each day. You must bring your textbook, workbook, notebook, and a pen. Listening, being prepared for class, asking questions, speaking in the target language and working cooperatively will all result in an excellent participation grade.
Notebook: It is your responsibility to maintain an organized notebook to which you can refer when reviewing for tests and quizzes. For this class, you will need a three-ring loose leaf binder divided into three sections 1) Class Notes, 2) Vocabulary, 3) Homework. When you are absent, you are responsible for the notes and class work that you miss. Your notebook will act as a major resource for review and test preparation.
Extra Help: I encourage you to ask for help if you do not understand a lesson. There will be two sessions per week to help you review new and old material.
Extra help will be on Monday and Wednesday afternoons, 2:00-3:00 PM
Technology: Students will use technology to supplement foreign language learning in and out of school. Homework assignments are periodically posted on my website.
***Students must comply with all CCSD technology rules. Students must also ensure that they have access to the Clarkstown North and Google networks.***
